Moving Image Languages:

  • Cinematography- This is the technique of movie photography, which involves the shooting and development of a film. So, it involves the camera basics, angles, shots and movements.
  • Mise-en-Scene- This involves everything in the shot, so the: make-up, setting, props, costume, lighting and the facial expression/performance.
  • Sound- There are two types of sound, diegetic: which are natural sounds within a filming sequence, and non-diegetic: which are sounds that are added in during an editing process to create dramatic effect.
  • Editing- This is the work of selecting and joining together shots to create a finished sequence.
  • Narrative/Structure- This is the way stories are told and how meaning and communication is constructed through them.
